Clive Historical Society  - History

In 1988, several concerned citizens of Clive met and discussed the fate of the railroad depot located at 86th and University Blvd.  With this discussion, a historical society was formed and Articles of Incorporation were drafted and filed with the Secretary of State in early 1989.  In October of 1990, the Board of Directors of the Historical Society met and adopted By-laws for the society.

Preservation of Clive's history and the restoration of the Clive Depot and Swanson General Store in Swanson Memorial Park are the current projects underway.  Eventually they will be available for education and interpretation of the "community" of Clive.  All the structures are ready for artifacts indicative of the late 1800's to late 1920s.

Other memorabilia may be donated for the museum in general for preservation of the total community.

Memberships are available and contributions are always welcome for the ongoing efforts of the society.  Our goals are long term and obtainable.

1.    Open the structures on a regular basis for visitors and tours.

2.    Regular meetings for the membership

3.    Special Event Days for the Community

4.    Work with the schools for Community Education regarding Clive's History and the history of the surrounding area.

5.    To represent the "Community called Clive"... That which we were, are and will continue to be.
