Caboose

The caboose was donated by the Norfolk Southern Railroad.  They were no longer being used and since Norfolk was dealing with the the society regarding the depot, they offered the caboose for our park. 

 Unfortunately there were no pictures taken of the caboose being moved from the track to the park.  If you know of any, we would be appreciate being allowed to make copies.

It was brought to the Des Moines rail yard and stayed there for over a year while the city and the society put together the legal paper work for Swanson Memorial Park.   It turned out that someone was living in it and the rail yard sent a letter indicating that we needed to make arrangements to get it out of their hands.
